Bonnie Hinz

Bonnie Hinz, recently relocated to Northwest Wisconsin from Minneapolis, is a nationally recognized artist known for her large-scale glass and metal wall installations and sculpture.

Before transitioning to art, Bonnie established a successful career in interior design. A beginning glassblowing class taken just for fun in the Twin Cities sparked a deep and lasting interest in the medium. While continuing to work full-time as a designer, she pursued training in glass, steadily developing her skills and artistic voice. In 2004, she built her own studio and committed to her practice as a full-time artist.

During this period, she expanded her focus to include metalwork, taking classes through the Guild of Metalsmiths to further develop her techniques. The integration of glass and metal has since become central to her work. She is particularly interested in the relationship between contrasting materials—the translucency and organic qualities of glass paired with the structural strength and endurance of metal. She is drawn to the tension and balance created when they coexist within a single composition.

Bonnie’s background in interior design continues to inform her artistic approach, especially in her use of color, scale, and spatial awareness. Her compositions are layered and dynamic, often featuring bold, balanced color palettes that respond to the environments in which they are installed.

Nature is an ongoing source of inspiration. She is influenced by the quiet complexity of organic forms—leaves unfolding, grasses bending, roots intertwining. These natural rhythms appear in the flowing lines and layered structures of her work, while maintaining a contemporary aesthetic.

Bonnie has completed commissioned installations for medical facilities, hotels, corporate offices, public institutions, and private residences throughout the United States.
